We’re one of only three dedicated burn centers in Michigan. Our Burn Center provides unparalleled care to hundreds of burn patients each year in both our inpatient unit and ambulatory burn clinic.
We are Michigan's largest adult burn care facility and Level I Trauma Center — which is the highest level designation — fully equipped to treat all types of thermal injuries including:
- Flame
- Scald
- Electrical
- Chemical
- Radiation
- Frostbite
- Compartment Syndrome
We know that your comfort is just as important to your recovery as your medical attention. The Burn Center critical care unit features include:
- A spacious operating room
- Patient lounge
- Patient and family consultation room
- Two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers
In addition, our critical care unit includes a hydrotherapy facility designed to aid in your healing, which features:
- Three whirlpools
- Two showers
- A lower extremity shower table

We Focus on More Than Just Physical Healing
Our dedicated Burn Center team understands the physical and psychological impact of burn injuries. That’s why we also focus on restoring your total well-being and getting you prepared physically as well as emotionally for all your “nexts.”
Total care continues past your time at DMC, Detroit Receiving Hospital with an easy transition to our Ambulatory Burn Clinic. The Ambulatory Burn Clinic provides ongoing clinical support including:
- Dressing changes
- Follow-up care
- Evaluation and management of delayed wound healing, chronic wounds
Ongoing Support for Burn Survivors and Families
Social workers and psychiatric consultants are also available on an outpatient basis to assist with your adjustment after discharge. These services are available for all burn patients, even if you were not treated at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Beyond the Burn Support Group
Beyond the Burn is a FREE support group open to all burn survivors, including those not treated at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital. The group meets weekly, facilitated by a social worker and psychiatric clinical nurse specialist. Family members of burn
survivors are also welcome to attend.
Burn Education and Community Outreach
DMC, Detroit Receiving Hospital, Burn Center care team members are passionate about what they do, dedicating time to helping our communities understand burn care and prevention. The team often participates in events hosted by area fire departments, associations
and healthcare organizations in an attempt to enhance community knowledge and hopefully, reduce the number of burn injuries among the Metro Detroit population.
