Overview

Thank you for your interest in the Detroit Medical Center! At the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and DMC Medical Group, our shared record of service has provided trusted medical care throughout the history of the Metropolitan Detroit area. From the founding of Children’s Hospital in 1886 and the creation of the first mechanical heart at Harper Hospital more than 50 years ago, to the areas first Women’s Hospital in 1868, our compassion is for the underserved, and our legacy is caring for our communities.

Our Mission is to continually provide compassionate, high quality and safe care to the people of the city of Detroit and the other communities we serve, especially to those who are most in need.

Students at DMC benefit from curricular innovations, access to medical staff, and a high level of communication with student representatives and clerkship directors. DMC is committed to making the educational experience a two-way process of communication, learning as much from students about how to create an ideal system, as students learn about how to become the best in their chosen field. DMC residency programs are AGCME accredited; ensuring that the foundation our students build will best serve the patients of the future. At the DMC we offer a variety of elective rotations for Base, Visiting and Guest students.

A Base student is a student who completes their core and elective rotations at the Detroit Medical Center.

A visiting student is a student whose school has a current affiliation agreement in place with the DMC..

A guest student is a student whose school does not have an affiliation agreement with the DMC. To find out if your school has an agreement with the DMC, please consult with your school. Guest students should apply through https://students-residents.aamc.org.

Please note in an effort to provide our students with the best knowledge and experience due to capacity limits the DMC is not accepting any new affiliation agreements until further notice.
