Doula Services
African American mothers are 2.1 times more likely than Caucasian mothers to experience severe maternal morbidity or adverse pregnancy outcomes that result in negative long-term health consequences. According to multiple studies, the impact of continuous support by doulas may lead to significant reductions in cesarean births, instrumental vaginal deliveries (use of an instrument to extract the fetus from the vagina), the need for medication to advance labor, and shortened durations of labor.
To help mothers get the proper care and guidance they need before, during, and post-delivery, the Detroit Medical Center welcomes doula services to help empower and guide mothers in their pregnancy journey. Doulas are our partners in health and are welcomed as members of our labor, delivery, and postpartum care team.
