Doula Services
Why Choose DMC?
At the DMC, we strive to create a supportive and collaborative environment for expectant mothers and their families. Here are some key aspects of our approach:
- While the DMC does not hire doulas directly, we warmly welcome them as part of the patient care team and appreciate their support. We offer a range of comprehensive obstetric services at three birthing hospital locations, including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Fetal Care Center (located at Children's Hospital of Michigan), the Natural Birthing Suite (located at DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital), and advanced care for babies in our Special Care Nurseries or NICUs across the system.
- Integration with Children's Hospital of Michigan, ranked as one of America’s best pediatric hospitals by U.S News & World Report, to provide continuity of care for babies through teens.
- A collaborative working environment with our experienced Maternity Navigation Team to support moms to be and their families.
- We recognize doulas as part of our care team. Our hospitals will provide doulas with identification to ensure they are not counted as visitors.
Join us in creating a nurturing environment for moms-to-be.

DMC Embraces Doula Services for Empowered Maternal Care
Recognizing the role of doulas in providing emotional and informational support, the Detroit Medical Center is committed to empowering and guiding mothers throughout their pregnancy journey by seamlessly integrating doula services. Doulas, selected independently by expectant mothers, are welcomed by the DMC as valuable members of the patient care team.
Doulas contribute significantly to informational support during labor, delivery, and postpartum care. The integration of doula services at the Detroit Medical Center ensures that mothers receive care, guidance, and support, fostering healthier outcomes for both mothers and babies.
The Detroit Medical Center welcomes doula services to help empower and guide mothers in their pregnancy journey. Trained doulas are encouraged to register on the doula registry through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
