Chelsea’s Story: A whole new outlook on life

The day 29-year-old Chelsea Meixner was supposed to take her final scuba diving test is a day she’ll never forget. “When I couldn’t get into the biggest male wetsuit they had, I knew I had to make a change,” recalled Chelsea. “I had at least 100 lbs to lose and I knew there was only one choice for my bariatric surgery—the Detroit Medical Center.”

Chelsea’s gastric bypass surgery went smoothly and she was back at work a few weeks after the procedure. After losing 137 pounds, she has more energy, is no longer a diabetic, is off blood pressure medications and no longer has back or joint pain. She has completed her Emergency Medical Technician training, bringing her one step closer to her goal of being a Flight Nurse.
