Parking Information

When you visit a Detroit Medical Center (DMC) hospital, we want everyone’s experience to be pleasant and safe. This page contains important information about parking at DMC facilities for visitors, staff and students and/or ticketing.

Visitor Parking

The DMC Central Campus offers visitors convenient covered self-park and valet park services. Self Park - $5 ; Valet - $12 ($5 for handicap with state issued plate or hang tag)

Self-parking is free for patients with validation. Parking validation is available inside the hospital.

Parking Locations

DMC Central Campus parking consists of covered parking decks and open lots. The campus also includes designated vendor and police/authority parking.

DMC Police Authority works closely with PETD to help keep DMC Campuses among the safest places to work and visit in the metropolitan area. These officers not only patrol the campus they provide excellent customer service in assisting patients, visitors and employees. In the event of an emergency, DMC Security can be reached by dialing 111 from any DMC phone.

Employee Parking

INTRODUCTION

To enhance security, efficiency, and accessibility, the DMC Adult Campus has implemented an RFID Parking Hang Tag System for all authorized staff members. This information outlines the policies and procedures related to the use, management, and enforcement of these hang tags. Compliance with these guidelines is mandatory, and violations may result in the revocation of parking privileges.

ISSUANCE & REGISTRATION

  1. Eligibility:
    • RFID hang tags are issued exclusively to active staff members with approved parking access.
    • Hang tags are non-transferable and must be used solely by the registered staff member.
  2. Registration Process:
    • Staff must complete the RFID Hang Tag Registration Form with Parking Operations.
    • valid DMC ID badge is required at the time of issuance.
  3. Hang Tag Placement:
    • The RFID hang tag must be hung from the rearview mirror at all times while on DMC property.
    • The tag must be visible and unobstructed to ensure proper functionality at entry/exit points.

AUTHORIZED USE & RESTRICTIONS

  1. Permitted Use:
    • The hang tag must only be used by the assigned staff member and their registered vehicle(s).
    • Staff must park only in designated staff parking areas as per their assigned parking zone.
  2. Prohibited Activities:
    • Transferring, lending, or sharing the hang tag with others.
    • Using another employee’s hang tag to gain unauthorized access.
    • Duplicating, altering, or tampering with the RFID tag in any way.
    • Parking in restricted areas, including patient parking zones, emergency lanes, or visitor parking.
  3. Violation Consequences:
    • First Offense: Written warning issued by Parking Operations.
    • Second Offense: 30-day suspension of parking privileges.
    • Third Offense: Permanent revocation of parking privileges and possible disciplinary action by DMC Security.

LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED HANG TAGS

  1. Lost/Stolen Hang Tags:
    • Report any lost or stolen RFID hang tags immediately to Parking Operations.
    • Replacement Fee: $25.00
  2. Damaged Hang Tags:
    • Damaged or non-functioning hang tags must be returned to Parking Operations Office for inspection.
    • If deemed defective due to normal wear and tear, a replacement will be provided at no cost.
    • If damage is due to negligence or misuse, a $25.00 replacement fee will apply.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT & COMPLIANCE

  1. Monitoring & Inspections:
    • DMC Parking Operations Team will conduct random audits and spot checks to ensure compliance.
    • Security personnel will monitor access points and enforce all parking regulations.
  2. Violation Reporting:
    • Unauthorized use or violations can be reported to Parking Operations at [email protected]
    • Employees are encouraged to report any misuse or suspicious activity.
  3. Appeals Process:
    • Employees who believe their parking privileges were unjustly revoked may submit an appeal to the DMC Parking Operations Team.
    • Appeals can be sent to dmc.org for review.

By accepting the RFID parking hang tag, employees acknowledge that they have read and understood the policies and procedures outlined above, agree to comply with all parking regulations and understand that violations may result in the loss of my parking privileges.

Parking & Badging FAQ

Badge Request Forms may be attained by contacting the Badging Office at (313) 745.2145.

In order to provide ease of access to care for our patients and their visitors; employees, students, etc. are not allowed to pay for parking services. Or park in areas reserved for patients/visitors. Violators of this policy are subject to progressive discipline and/or ticketing.

There is also a $10 fee to replace lost/stolen badges.

There is a $10 processing fee for the following types of ID badges:Residents, Students, Vendors, Contractors, & Karmanos staff/vendors.

  • Upon receiving a DMC badge, staffs working in most capacities are assigned to a parking location. This parking assignment must be used at all times when working.
  • This privilege is coded to your ID badge which should be swiped upon entry/exit of the assigned parking location.
  • Access will not be granted to other parking areas, without prior approval.
  • Parking assignments are based on DMC Parking Policy 1CG040; exceptions must be approved by hospital executive leadership.
  • Consideration is given to individuals with documented medical conditions. A formal request should be made through DMC Occupational Health Services.

  • Tenet Healthcare & DMC Staff should bring their Human Resources paperwork (e.g. Red Carpet badge request form) when visiting the Badging Office.
  • Physicians should bring their completed and approved badge request form by Medical Affairs when visiting the Badging Office.
  • Residents / Students may visit the Badging Office once they have notification that rosters have been received by the Badging Office.NOTE:Instructors looking to bring in groups of more than 5 students at a time to be badged must schedule an appointment by calling the Badging Office at (313) 745.2145.
  • Vendors / Contracted Staff must bring a completed and approved badge request form from their respective DMC contact when visiting the Badging Office.
  • Tenants (w/leased space at a DMC site) must bring a completed and approved badge request form by the Real Estate Services Department when visiting the Badging Office.

Parking assignments are based on DMC Parking Policy #1CG040.

Student parking and badge processing must be coordinated by the respective instructors. The Badging Office policy for all affiliated institutions is as follows:

  • Instructors are required to complete the ACEMAPP process.
  • Rosters will be forwarded via email to the Badging Office once approved by the respective DMC educator.
  • Instructors must call to verify the Badging Office has received their student rosters. An appointment may be scheduled at this time.
  • Groups must be prompt for their appointment. A 15 minute grace period is allowed after which appointment will be rescheduled.
  • Parking assignments for all students rotating on days will be at the Kresge Deck, located at 4707 St. Antoine, Detroit, MI 48201. DMC Police Authority patrols this parking area.
  • Yellow hanging tags will be provided for this parking location and must be returned along with DMC badge at the end of rotation. A voucher will be provided for a $5 refund.

There is a $25 replacement fee for lost/stolen/un-returned parking access cards.

About DMC Badging Services

Everyone entering the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) system including employees contracted staff, physicians, students or residents on clinical rotation and vendors/contractors should visit one of the DMC’s Badging Offices to receive the proper Identification Badge credentials. All DMC badges must include a photograph (taken during your visit; personal photos are not accepted). Individuals in need of a parking privileges must provide all of their vehicle information (i.e. make, model, year, color and license plate no.). The appropriate vehicle identifier will be issued and must be displayed at all times when parked at the DMC.
