About Us

An integral part of the Detroit Medical Center, Hutzel Women’s Hospital was the first hospital in Michigan dedicated to the unique needs of women and babies. Today, Hutzel is a preferred destination for prenatal care, childbirth, advanced care for babies and women’s care. In partnership with Wayne State University, Hutzel is also one of the top teaching and research hospitals in Michigan.

DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital specializes in both traditional and high-risk pregnancies and births. Hutzel physicians and clinical staff provide personalized, comprehensive, and proficient prenatal care with an exceptional delivery experience. In a welcoming atmosphere, the Hutzel team focuses on your unique delivery experience, supporting each mom’s needs, and respectful care for all based on our diverse DMC patient and staff population.

Hutzel is also home to a Maternal Special Care unit—the only unit of its kind in the tri-county area—for close monitoring of pregnant women with complex medical conditions. Our Children’s Hospital of Michigan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides advanced care to critically ill newborns and premature babies. Infants receive multidisciplinary care from our highly-trained team of NICU physicians, nurses and specialists. Families also have direct access to Children’s Hospital of Michigan for pediatric care.

Our Hutzel moms appreciate the full continuum of care, such as birthing classes, lactation consultants, and a variety of birthing and pain management options. Doulas are also welcome as part of the labor and delivery team. Patients have a direct connection to Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians and the Fetal Care Center at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Hutzel has opened the all-new postpartum unit, with a modern, welcoming and calming design and new rooms and amenities for Moms to rest, recover and spend time with their baby and partner.
