Through our ongoing volunteer efforts in health education and disease prevention, we demonstrate healthier, happier lives. By supporting events, programs and initiatives across the region, we help cultivate a strong sense of belonging while encouraging individuals to engage, contribute and make a positive difference. Our focus is simple and unwavering: creating a lasting impact in the communities we serve.
Meet Our Team
Dion Williams
Dion serves as Group Director of Community Engagement for the Detroit Medical Center, bringing more than 25 years of experience in political, faith-based and grassroots community outreach. Since joining DMC in November 2023, Dion has focused on strengthening relationships and advancing initiatives that promote community health and health equity. A Detroit native, he has held key outreach roles with the State of Michigan, the City of Detroit and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and previously served as an Ecumenical Advisor to DMC’s Path to Health Program. Dion studied business management at Wayne State University and is deeply committed to ensuring DMC remains visible, trusted and engaged in the communities we serve.

Holly Gerdom
Holly Gerdom is the Community Outreach Coordinator at DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Twp. She serves as a liaison between the hospital and community stakeholders to led events and coordinate clinicians for outreach opportunities. To connect with her, here's her contact information:

Sharon McKinzie
Sharon is the Trauma Program Specialist at DMC Sinai‑Grace Hospital. As part of DMC’s trauma prevention outreach initiatives, Sharon leads free, community‑based injury prevention and violence awareness programs for youth, adults and seniors. Partnering with local safety professionals, she delivers engaging presentations focused on preventing injuries, reducing violence and building safer communities.

American Heart Association, Detroit Chapter
For over 20 years, the DMC has been a proud supporter of the mission of the American Heart Association. In their 100 year history, the AHA has been fighting heart disease and stroke, two conditions which disproportionately impact the African American community.
DABO
The DMC provides ongoing sponsorship support to DABO and has recently provided COVID screenings and education through them. The Detroit Association of Black Organizations (DABO) includes over 130 Black and non-Black organizations working to build community unity and empowerment within the Black Community, through skills development and critical resource/food provisions.
Gleaners
Gleaners Food Bank is a Detroit not-for-profit organization who provides households with access to sufficient, nutritious food and related resources. The DMC supports them through our annual Cereal Drive, 13 years and counting, providing over 11.8M servings of cereal.
NAACP, Detroit Branch
The DMC is an active supporter of the Detroit Branch NAACP, most recently providing financial support to the Annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner over the past several years. Now in its 110th year, the Detroit Branch NAACP remains the largest branch of the NAACP since its inception, which has contributed to many significant efforts to achieve equality, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.
Wayne County
For the past several years, DMC has been a sponsor for signature events led by Wayne County including their annual Senior Funfest and Dining with a Doc events. As one of the most populous counties in Michigan, Wayne County offers numerous programming and services for their residents.
