Visitor Policy
The Detroit Medical Center has implemented an updated Visitor Policy that applies to all adult DMC facilities, for the health and safety of our patients, their families and the community.
Important guidelines in the Visitor Policy include:
- For inpatient services, all patients are allowed up to two (2) visitors at any one time.
- All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- Visitors who exhibit illness or cold symptoms will be asked to choose another time to visit during a period of wellness. This applies to both private and semi-private rooms. If hospitals have policies that are more restrictive than the proposed guidelines, they will continue to use them.
Exceptions to the Visitor Policy will be handled on an individual basis under the guidance of the direct care team. Example of an exception includes:
Patients with physical, mental or cognitive disabilities who require support from family members or staff in order for them to effectively communicate with medical personnel or otherwise receive equal access to medical treatment.
Visiting hours are 7 days a week and vary by location:
8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
