Have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course at an accredited school of nursing. Students must successfully pass all courses to remain in the program.
Applicants can apply starting three weeks before the completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
Interview and have a contingent position commitment from the unit lead and follow specific work commitments in each schedule.
Complete hospital and all onboarding requirements.
Remain in good standing with employment requirements to be eligible for transfer into the Nurse Residency/Graduate Nurse Program upon graduation.
The nurse extern will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor, providing direct patient care, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols.
The Nurse Extern II will be assigned to an experienced RN each shift and will assist with providing patient care such as ADLS, vitals, ambulation and other duties within the scope of a patient care tech or equivalent.
The assigned RN instructs and mentors the Nurse Extern II in the assigned clinical area and provides feedback on an ongoing basis.
Applicants can apply starting six months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing and must pass all senior-level courses to remain in the program.
Interview and have a position commitment from the extern program and unit leader.
Employed in a contingent position with a minimum 24-hour work commitment per pay period.
Complete hospital orientation and all onboarding requirements.
