Created in 1947, the Alumni Achievement Award is presented to College of Medicine or resident alumni in acknowledgement of distinguished career achievements, both in contributions to the practice of medicine and to society as a whole.

In addition to her outstanding patient care, Dr. Grines is widely acclaimed for her research in acute myocardial infarction and has initiated and designed the PAMI studies, which have brought primary angioplasty to the forefront as a leading reperfusion strategy revolutionizing the management of heart attack patients. Dr. Grines has earned recognition and respect as a leading interventional cardiologist and researcher, participating in numerous clinical research trials, with over 400 publications, peer reviewed and numerous book chapters on cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, acute myocardial infarction, chemical intervention to break down arterial blockage, and gene therapy.

She is the editor of the Journal of Interventional Cardiology. She serves on numerous national and international boards. She recently co-authored an American Heart Association statement on the significant shift over time in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction in women, and was honored at the May 2016 meeting of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention tribute to "Women Luminaries in Interventional Cardiology."

"Dr. Grines is an outstanding physician, mentor and researcher," said DMC Heart Hospital President Dr. Theodore Schreiber. "This type of recognition is well-deserved and reinforces the critical role she fills in positively impacting the lives of every patient who walks through our doors. We’re extremely proud of her, and thrilled to have her on our team."
