4 DMC Hospitals Receive Prestigious MPRO Governor’s Award of Excellence

May 9, 2017

he Detroit Medical Center's (DMC) Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper-Hutzel Hospitals, Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and Sinai-Grace Hospital have all earned a 2017 MPRO Governor’s Award of Excellence for outstanding achievement in improving the quality of healthcare.

The DMC hospitals were recognized in the areas of: Effective Reporting and Measurement for Outpatient Quality Reporting, Hospital Value-Based Purchasing, Acute Care Hospitals and Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals.

"We are very pleased to have received this recognition," said Dr. Tony Tedeschi, CEO, DMC. "Our patients’ health needs are always evolving and patient safety and practices that prevent harm is critical to high-quality health care. We recognize it and are committed to implementing the innovative approaches and system-based solutions that will keep our patients safe."

Improving healthcare through the use of quality data, is one of MPRO’s key components for making health care better and safer. DMC is a leader in using technology to optimize medical and patient data.

MPRO defines itself as “a nonprofit organization and national leader in healthcare quality improvement and medical review” with the goal of helping healthcare get better. MPRO provides medical consulting and review, as well as data analysis to federal agencies, state Medicaid and public health organizations, healthcare facilities, private health plans and other third party payers.

The Governor's Award of Excellence program is a partnership between MPRO and the Office of the Governor to recognize outstanding achievements by providers and organizations in healthcare quality improvement. The program, developed in 2003, requires participating healthcare providers to meet specific improvement criteria in order to achieve this prestigious award.

Award winners in the effective reporting categories have to submit detailed information on performance improvement monitoring, baseline data, intervention date and other info periodically during the previous year, with the final report submission in December.

These DMC hospitals and other recipients will be recognized in an award ceremony on May 10 in the Greater Lansing area.
