Your First Step with Our Program

A decision as important as bariatric surgery should not be taken lightly. You probably have a lot of questions, such as:

Bariatric surgery can unlock amazing potential for patients in need, offering a way to facilitate lasting weight loss in those otherwise unable to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. However, the amount of information required to make an educated decision can often feel overwhelming, especially for those new to the process. With a bariatric seminar at the Detroit Medical Center, you can learn all you need to know about the exciting opportunities that await you, including:

We know that many of our patients have busy lives, families, and jobs that may stand in the way of seminar attendance. For your convenience, we provide two seminar options: online and in-person.

Online Seminar

We understand some patients may appreciate the convenience of an online seminar, or they may not be able to attend in-person. To accommodate the needs and preferences of our patients, we have developed an all-new online version of our bariatric seminar which provides all of the same valuable information as the in-person seminar. You will register online before the seminar begins, and your next steps will be provided at the end of the seminar. Similar to the in-person seminar, we require you to view the full seminar before scheduling a consultation with a DMC physician.

The online seminar takes less than an hour to view. Be sure you’re in a quiet place, free of distractions or interruptions. You can pause the video at any time. This seminar is interactive, and there will be review questions for your benefit to help reinforce the information that was presented. If you have any questions about bariatric surgery not answered by the seminar, jot them down and bring them to your first appointment.

In-Person Seminar

Our in-person surgical weight loss seminars are led by one of our bariatric physicians and last approximately one and a half hours. Held in meeting rooms at our physician offices or the hospital, this seminar provides a chance for you to get acquainted with our facilities, meet our staff and explore what we can do for you. Our staff will also discuss how your life will change after surgery, and how to take the next step. There is time at the end for questions and answers, as well as an opportunity to speak directly with one of our staff members to help with any additional concerns you may have.
