A specialty referral hospital, DMC Harper University Hospital provides expertise in neuroscience, minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention, and heart failure. Located in Detroit, Harper has served patients from across the country and around the world for over 150 years.

Visitor Policy: visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily (COVID-19 restrictions). Two support persons will be permitted per day. They must be 12 or older. Many special care units have limited and specific visiting hours. Before visiting, please check with the unit for details. Visitor guidelines are subject to change.

Visiting hours are from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

About Us

Established in 1863, DMC Harper University Hospital is among America’s oldest and most highly regarded teaching institutions. In partnership with Wayne State University School of Medicine, we’re staffed by leading medical experts and educators. These exceptional doctors are engaged in pioneering medical research and clinical trials, often giving patients access to innovative treatments and advanced diagnostic services before they are widely available.

Harper is a collaboration of specialized clinicians, researchers and educators provide surgical services, robotic surgery, intensive care, diagnostic imaging, with advanced technology for cardiovascular, pulmonary, and orthopedic care.

Harper is a leader in neurology and neurosurgery, including surgical, minimally invasive, and non-invasive treatment of complex neurological disorders and injuries for the brain and spine. Harper is recognized by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

DMC Harper University Hospital was recognized in 2022 by U.S. News and World Report as high performing nationally in gastroenterology & GI surgery and geriatrics in the Adult Specialties category. In the Common Adult Procedure and Condition rankings, Harper is rated as High Performing in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and pneumonia.
