DMC Hospitals Ranked Nationally for Care

Detroit – Led by DMC Harper University Hospital, the Detroit Medical Center has once again been recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

DMC Harper University Hospital ranked nationally in the top 50 in Geriatrics and Nephrology in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-2021 Best Hospitals ranking.

The hospital was also designated as high performing nationally in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Pulmonology and Lung Surgery in the Adult Specialties category. In the Common Adult Procedure and Condition ranking, DMC Harper was rated as high performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Heart Failure.

In addition to DMC Harper University Hospital, three other DMC hospitals were recognized for exceptional care by the magazine.

DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital were designated as a high performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Heart Failure in the Common Adult Procedure and Condition category. DMC Huron Valley Sinai Hospital was also ranked as high performing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in this category.

The national recognition of DMC’s adult hospitals comes on the heels of DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan being ranked as one of the top in the nation for pediatric care by U.S. News & World Reports. DMC Children’s was nationally ranked in six pediatric specialties; Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology.

The 2020-2021 adult hospital rankings compared more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 26 specialties, 10 procedures and conditions.  According to U.S. News, their Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely or entirely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
