Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Welcome/Overview

Thank you for your interest in the Detroit Medical Center Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency program. The Residency is a five-year program approved under the American Council for Graduate Medical Education leading to board eligibility by the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Two highly qualified candidates are chosen per year. During your training at the DMC, candidates will encounter a fast paced environment with significant exposure to complex adult and pediatric ailments providing an exceptional surgical and clinical experience. The goal of our program is to expose the residents to the breadth of Otolaryngology head and neck pathologies. This is accomplished through an intensive and rigorous clinical and surgical experience, strong didactics, and clinical research. Under the close supervision of our widely recognized faculty, residents receive broad training and experience in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and abnormalities of the ear, nose, throat, sinuses, larynx, esophagus, trachea, and bronchi. Additional intensive training is provided covering maxillofacial trauma and orthognathic surgery throughout the calendar year. The program integrates training at seven university-based medical centers: DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Michigan Ear Institute and Roswell Park Cancer Center, a national comprehensive cancer center. Additional rotations in Head and Neck Surgery are completed in collaboration with Wayne State University Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Karmanos Cancer Center.
