Hutzel Women's Hospital Childbirth Classes and Tours
January - June, 2024

DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital is pleased to offer free classes and tours in 2024 for those delivering at Hutzel. All classes are taught by our experienced nursing staff. Registration is required. Call 313-745-8117 to register and for details.

For the safety of our patients and visitors, classes and tours are limited in size. Walk-ins are not accepted.

DMC Visitor Guidelines are posted at all DMC hospital entrances. If you are experiencing any symptom(s) of COVID-19, flu or RSV, or you have been exposed to a confirmed positive COVID-19 case within the last 5 days, please do not enter the hospital. 

Childbirth Education Class

Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; February 24, March 23, April 27, May 18, June 22

Class is taught by a certified nurse midwife or certified labor/delivery nurse. Class will cover anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, what to expect in labor, stages of labor, exercises and breathing techniques, medications and equipment, non-medical comfort techniques, your labor champion, and procedures that may happen during labor. Wear comfortable clothing. Please bring a bag lunch or plan to use our on-site restaurants. Be prepared to arrive on time and attend the complete 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. session to receive the maximum benefit from the class.

Breastfeeding Class

Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.; February 13, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11

Class is taught by an experienced nurse trained as a lactation counselor. Class covers benefits of breastfeeding, how breastfeeding works, getting off to a good start in the hospital, skin-to-skin, working while breastfeeding and sources of support. Please bring a newborn-sized doll or stuffed animal and a baby blanket.

Infant Care Class

Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.; February 20, March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18

Class is taught by an experienced mother/baby nurse. Topics include: understanding your newborn, sleep patterns, infant safety, newborn nutrition, circumcision, procedures/tests, diapering and bathing your baby, choosing a pediatrician, and immunizations. Please bring a newborn-sized doll and baby blanket to class.

DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital Walking Tour

Each mom will have her own 30-minute walking tour. Moms may bring one support person. Arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for parking/walking. Registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted, so please call 313-745-8117 to register.

• Mondays, 6 - 9 p.m.; February 19, March 11, April 8, May 6, June 10
• First and third Wednesdays of each month; 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m

Note: Classes and tours may be canceled at any time based on unsafe weather conditions, a rise in COVID-19 patient volume, or not meeting the minimum required attendance.
