Hutzel Women's Hospital Childbirth Classes and Tours
March-May, 2022

Classes and tours will resume at DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital for a trial period during March-May 2022. During this three-month period, classes will be free. Registration is required. Please call to register and for details.

For the safety of our newborns, patients, and visitors, all classes and tours will be limited in size. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

DMC Visitor Guidelines are posted at all DMC hospital entrances. If you are experiencing any symptom(s) of COVID-19 or you have been exposed to a confirmed positive COVID-19 case within the last 5 days, please do not enter the hospital. A mask is required to be worn while inside the hospital.

Childbirth Education Class

Saturday, April 2 or Saturday, May 14; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Class is taught by a certified nurse midwife. Class will cover anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, what to expect in labor, stages of labor, exercises and breathing techniques, medications and equipment, non-medical comfort techniques, your labor champion and procedures that might happen in labor. Bring two pillows, a blanket and wear comfortable clothing. Please bring a bag lunch or plan to use our on-site restaurants.

Breastfeeding Class

April 11 or May 10; 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Class is taught by a board-certified lactation consultant. Class covers benefits of breastfeeding, how breastfeeding works, getting off to a good start in the hospital, skin-to-skin, working while breastfeeding and sources of support. Please bring a newborn-sized doll or stuffed animal and a baby blanket.

Infant Care Class

April 26 or May 24; 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Class is taught by an experienced mother/baby nurse. Topics include: understanding your newborn, sleep patterns, infant safety, newborn nutrition, circumcision, diapering and bathing your baby, choosing a pediatrician and immunizations. Please bring a newborn-sized doll and baby blanket to class.

DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital Walking Tour

Each mom will have her own 30-minute walking tour. Moms may bring one support person. Registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted, so please call to register.

  • First and third Wednesday of each month; 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Third Monday of each month; 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
