CommunityDMC Harper University Hospital is a nationally awarded health care provider with a record of excellence in a variety of services ranging from neurosciences to organ transplant and nephrology to bariatric surgery. Surgeons at the Your New Self: Detroit Medical Center Weight Loss Solutions program have helped lead the way in transforming lives by developing and performing innovative weight-loss surgery and non-surgical weight loss. Our program is recognized nationally as an Accredited Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, and has earned the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Bariatric Surgery. Surgical services offered at Harper and DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital include: Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding, Duodenal Switch and the use of Robotic Assisted technique for bariatric surgery. Perinatal Research Branch As Michigan’s first and only hospital for women, DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital is considered one of the nation’s premier hospitals for women’s care and research. Hutzel is also home to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Perinatology Research Branch (PRB), which was at the center of a three-year, international clinical trial, “The Effect of Vaginal Progesterone Administration in the Prevention of Preterm Birth in Women with a Short Cervix,” lead by Sonia S. Hassan, M.D. Hutzel Women’s Specialty areas include maternal fetal medicine; an advanced birthing center; advanced care for newborns, long-term birth control, minimally invasive gynecology, incontinence and urogynecology, menopause and other women’s health services. Hutzel is a leader in addressing the high incidence of infant mortality in Detroit and the region.
