Cereal Drive

DMC Children’s Hospital Nurses Fill the Need Breakfast is served...1.5 million times

Cereal DriveSummertime. School’s out, and for more than 300,000 children in southeast Michigan, that means the end of a guaranteed school breakfast. Since 2010, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Professional Nurse Council’s Cereal Drive has helped fill the gap. The most recent drive was the best ever, collecting 1,050,287 servings of cereal to be distributed by the Gleaners Food Bank of Southeast Michigan and its affiliates. In addition, through a matching grant from Tenet Healthcare, more than $47,000 was raised to purchase milk, fruit and other perishables to round out a healthy breakfast. The DMC/Tenet Cereal Drive has become a summer mainstay against childhood hunger, making sure
little tummies get the most important meal of the day.
