For over 60 years, DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM), has been helping people rebuild their lives after a serious illness or injury. We do this by delivering comprehensive rehabilitation services based on cutting-edge treatment techniques, innovative research and excellent, personalized medical care. A comprehensive spectrum of both inpatient and outpatient services and programs are available for spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal disorders, low back problems, amputations, geriatric conditions, work-related injuries, sports injuries and other medical conditions requiring physical rehabilitation.

With 94 inpatient beds, RIM is Michigan’s largest rehabilitation hospital, and treats more spinal cord and brain injury patients than any other program in the state. RIM has earned the rare distinction of being named as one of only 16 federally designated centers of excellence in the U.S. for the treatment of brain injuries. In addition, RIM also houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery, a world-class facility designed to implement and study the results of innovative treatments that may result in some level of improvement in persons with injured or damaged spinal cords.

The Institute’s clinical capabilities are broad and diverse, and include physiatry, rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, neuropsychology, speech and language pathology, social work, electrodiagnostics, driver training, environmental evaluations and vocational counseling. These programs along with the Institute’s educational services, are aimed at helping persons with disabilities reach the highest level of functioning, independence and productivity.

RIM's 30+ outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation centers are located across southeast Michigan, providing therapy for the full spectrum of need. The keystone of this network is the Brasza Outpatient and Fitness Center, located in the DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. The Brasza Center is an impressive, 26,000 square foot facility that spans more than five vertical floors. It’s a bright, open space, with sleek, modern architectural style. This unique facility is the result of years of planning, a commitment to patient care, and a deep understanding of what patients really want and need in a physical therapy setting.

The centerpiece of the Brasza Center complex is a state of the art, multi-level fitness center, designed to meet the unique needs and interests of it’s clients. The Center is outfitted with the very latest in high-tech fitness equipment, including a complete Cybex circuit, treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, ergometers, and nu steps. A section of the training floor is dedicated to the use of free weights, and a separate area is reserved for two full cardio circuits, one with an advanced unweighting system for those who need assistance with walking.
Centrally located computer kiosks within the training area give staff the flexibility to constantly monitor and update their patients’ progress.

Two stories above the training area is a four-lane track with designated lanes for runners, walkers, joggers and wheelers. The track surface is designed for comfort, whether you’re on foot or on wheels.

Three spacious aerobic studios offer a variety of program possibilities, from group exercise and wheelchair mobility training, to community education.

The center also includes a comprehensive sports medicine program directed by experienced therapists who together with athletic trainers, offer patients a team approach to rehab. An individualized physical therapy and strength training program is designed to get you back in the game as quickly as possible.

Upon the completion of the patient’s therapy program, a monthly membership to the Fitness
Center is available to assist patients in maintaining a healthy and independent lifestyle.
