DMC Hospitals among America’s Safest, only Top Hospitals in Detroit
Four Detroit Medical Center hospitals – DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, DMC Harper University/Hutzel Women’s Hospital, DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital – were honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score^SM by The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score^SM was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. U.S. hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.

DMC Detroit Receiving, DMC Sinai-Grace and DMC Harper University/Hutzel Women's Hospitals were also named "Top Hospitals" by Leapfrog - the only hospitals in Detroit to receive the honor.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital have been named two of the nation's Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes. Huron Valley-Sinai and Detroit Receiving are among 620 hospitals in the U.S., (DMC Huron Valley-Sinai is the only hospital in Oakland County), earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2011 calendar year. 

HealthGrades Clinical Quality Ratings

Two DMC hospitals – DMC Huron Valley-Sinai and DMC Sinai-Grace -- are ranked among the top five percent in the nation for clinical quality by the health-care rating organization HealthGrades. Only 270 hospitals across the U.S. earned the 2009 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. The winning hospitals collectively had a 27 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality rate and an eight percent lower risk-adjusted inpatient complication rate for Medicare patients. If all hospitals met the performance of these DMC hospitals, 152,666 lives would have been saved between 2005 and 2007.

Huron Valley-Sinai received the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award (2008) and three other DMC hospitals – DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and Sinai-Grace received HealthGrades’ Stroke Care Excellence Award for 2007. Also recognized were Harper for Gastrointestinal Care and Pulmonary Care and Sinai-Grace for Critical Care.

Bariatric Center of Excellence

Harper University Hospital has received full approval from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) as a Bariatric Center of Excellence. This accreditation recognizes that Harper's bariatric program meets the patient care standards as set forth by the SRC and ASBS.
