DMC Sinai-Grace has become the first healthcare facility in Michigan to successfully resynchronize a patient’s heartbeat using a breakthrough pacemaking device. The new Unify Quadra™ cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D), just recently approved by the FDA, is the smallest pacemaking device and the only quadripolar pacing system available. The Quadra use a pacing lead with four electrodes (instead of the usual two), which enables more pacing configurations and reduces common problems associated with implantable CRT systems. Ultimately this results in fewer surgeries for patients.

The STAR trial (Stimulation Therapy for Apnea Reduction) will be conducted at leading medical centers across the United States and Europe, and will evaluate the efficacy of Inspire™ Upper Airway Stimulation (UAS) therapy, an implantable therapy that works with the body's natural physiology to prevent airway obstruction during sleep.
