March 2, 2009- DMC Sports Medicine Offers Free Soccer Bootcamp for Students, Coaches and Parents
DETROIT — This spring, young athletes will be putting on uniforms and joining soccer teams across the Detroit area. They will practice, play and sometimes get hurt. Detroit Medical Center Sports Medicine is offering a free Soccer Bootcamp to learn how to prevent common injuries associated with the sport and enhance performance. Held in partnership with Detroit Ignition, the city’s professional indoor soccer team, the one-day seminar will be held Saturday, March 28, 2 - 5 p.m. at High Velocity Sports Field #1 in Canton.
Four interactive seminars will be offered: “Soccer Skills and Drills” will be presented by Ignition players and coaches. “Soccer Specific Strengthening,” “Reaction Training,” and “Soccer Specific Core Strengthening” will be presented by DMC Certified Athletic Trainers Tony Robles and Mickey Tulett. DMC Sports Medicine physicians will also be available to assess player’s knees for risk of sports related injuries.
Velocity Sports Field #1 is located at 46245 Michigan Ave. in Canton. This event is free. Seating is limited. This boot camp is open to players 12-18 years old. Participants will need to arrive dressed and ready to be active. To reserve a spot call: 1-877-DMC-0018.
