July 14, 2008- The Detroit Medical Center Re-Names Hospital; Brings New Services to Oakland County
DETROIT – The Detroit Medical Center announced today that its Michigan Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital in Madison Heights has been re-named DMC Surgery Hospital. The name change reflects an expansion of services for adults and children. In addition to continuing to provide orthopaedic surgery for adults, surgeons from the Children’s Hospital of Michigan will now perform outpatient surgery in seven specialty areas at the hospital.
"Children's Hospital of Michigan offers highly-trained pediatric surgeons performed more than 15,000 surgeries at the hospital in 2007 alone," said Herman Gray, MD, president, Children's Hospital of Michigan. "We are pleased that many families will now have access to the expertise and skill of our pediatric surgeons at a location that may be closer to home."
The Detroit Medical Center first opened the Madison Heights site in March 2003 as Michigan Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital. It was the first hospital in the state to offer inpatient and outpatient surgical care exclusively focused on orthopaedics. In addition, a 24-hour general Emergency Room was opened to the community, featuring the DMC 29-minute guarantee. The hospital also continued to provide services through Madison Behavioral Health Services, which it acquired with the purchase of the site.
"We are excited to expand services to the community by partnering with the surgeons at Children's Hospital of Michigan," said DMC Surgery Hospital President Frank Iacobell. "This complements our existing focus on adult orthopaedic and sports medicine, giving physicians and patients a wide range of surgical services at a convenient location in Oakland County."
In the past five years, the hospital grew to also include a full-service radiology department, a Back Pain Clinic and an off-site Wound Care Center. The nation’s leading pediatric specialists from Children’s Hospital of Michigan will now offer surgical services in the areas of Developmental Dentistry; ENT; Gastroenterology; General Surgery; Ophthalmology; Orthopedics and Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery. Outpatient physical and occupational therapy will also be available.
DMC Surgery Hospital is located at 30671 Stephenson Highway, just south of 13 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights.
