Detroit Medical Center & Plymouth United Church of Christ Confront Significant Health Challenges Affecting Residents in SE Michigan
On Saturday, August 24, 2013, the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and Plymouth United Church of Christ (UCC) will host Faith, Fitness and Fun!- a free community health fair that will provide attendees with critical health and wellness education. The information provided will help residents address the most prevalent health issues confronting southeast Michigan communities. National research defines these health issues as: cardiac disease, hypertension, obesity and weight management and diabetes. This fair will give the community the opportunity to meet DMC health experts, find a medical home and receive important information from Physicians that will improve their health and quality of life. Attendees can take advantage of free health screenings (adults 18+), fitness demonstrations, food and fun!
Children are welcome! There will be a magic show and plenty of games and activities for children, as well as a special appearance by Children's Hospital of Michigan's mascot Jake and Alley!
“This is a natural partnership between DMC and the church because our mission and goals are so closely aligned,” stated Lynn Torossian, President of DMC Harper-Hutzel Hospitals. “Combining Faith and Fitness is significant because we both can reinforce the message of wellness and application of good health principles to the community. “
