Psychiatry / Mental Health

Mental illness takes a personal, familial and financial toll that is
unequaled by any other contemporary problem in the United States. To
assist people experiencing mental health disorders such as anxiety,
depression and schizophrenia, the Detroit Medical Center offers a broad range of
treatment options in a setting that fosters high quality education,
training and services.
The Neuropsychiatric Research Unit (NRU) at Wayne State University
and the Detroit Medical Center conducts research that will hopefully
lead to major breakthroughs in the underlying causes and
treatment of schizophrenia and mood disorders. Psychiatrists,
psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists and social workers form
a dynamic team approach to treatment. New medications, treatment
methods and increased understanding of the human brain at Detroit Medical Center
facilities will improve the prognosis for all people afflicted with
mental illness.
