We believe the birth experience can be shared by the whole family and we would like to prepare you for a most positive experience.

Note: Family Life Education Classes are intended only for those mothers who are giving birth at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital.

Family Life Education Classes Presented by The Women & Children Nurses

Birth Awareness      

For expectant parents, our four-week course prepares you to participate in the birthing process. Learn the mechanics of labor and birth, as well as the appropriate relaxation and breathing techniques. This class should be attended during the last three month of pregnancy.

Bringing Baby Home     

This class offers a close look at the newborn including behavior, nutrition, hygiene and dress. Safety issues such as signs of sickness, response to choking and rescue breathing are also included.

Birth Review      

If you have had a baby within the past two or three years, this class is tailored to meet your needs. In two, two-hour sessions, you'll review labor, breathing techniques, birth, relaxation, visualization and learn how to deal with siblings.

Breastfeeding: Nature's Way      

This 2 1/2 hour class teaches the science and art of breastfeeding. Add a beautiful dimension to your motherhood.

Big Kids' Class      

The sudden change from "baby" to big sister or brother takes explaining: hence, this one-session class. Siblings receive an on-the-scene preview of Mom's visit to HVSH and learn what it all means. Using visual aids and dolls, we'll show rights and wrongs of baby handling and give a clear picture of the important part the siblings will play in their expanded families. This is a one-time class.

CPR for Family and Friends      

This class is designed for the average person who wishes to know how to save a life. The Family and Friends class covers CPR and choking for infants, children and adults. This class is intended for persons age 12 and up (minors must be accompanied by a parent).

What about bad weather ? We offer classes 6 days a week at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital throughout the year. On rare occasions, the weather may result in hazardous road conditions. In event of bad weather, please call the hospital operator after 5 pm or within one hour prior to the start time of your class to determine if your class has been cancelled. Your instructor will make arrangements with participants to reschedule.
