Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a fairly common medical problem affecting approximately 5 to 10 percent of women of reproductive age. It can cause women to have difficulty getting pregnant and can also have serious medical consequences.

The syndrome is not completely understood, but physicians know this much: If left untreated, it may cause cardiovascular disease, diabetes, abnormal growth of the endometrial lining and even endometrial cancer.

Doctors at University Women’s Care and Hutzel Women’s Hospital are working to understand the condition – currently studying various medical therapies. Hutzel physicians treat many patients with PCOS, some of whom have been successful in getting pregnant without fertility drugs and special procedures.

To schedule an appointment with a Hutzel physician, please call University Women’s Care at (248) 352-8200 or Hutzel Women’s Hospital at 1-888-DMC-2500.
