|Health Tip of the Day:
Ditch those puffy, dark circles under your eyes
If you're looking in the mirror and noticing bags or dark circles under your eyes, you are certainly not alone. This is a very common complaint heard by dermatologists and plastic surgeons alike.
The morning puffiness could be due to allergies, excess salt in your dinner diet, crying the night prior, consumption of alcohol, too little sleep, failure to remove eye makeup or an unfortunate sign of aging.
“As we age, the skin around our eyes thins and wrinkles, with dark circles and fine lines becoming more prominent,” said Mary Martin, RN, of the Sinai-Grace Cosmetic Center in Berkley.
Martin recommends the following tips for keeping your eyes looking youthful:
- Quit smoking.
- Always wear sunscreen with an SPF 20 or higher.
- Moisturize daily, using an eye repair cream and an eye uplifting serum as part of your regimen.
- Juvederm fillers injected under the eye can correct the contours of the eye socket, leaving a more youthful look.
- Eyelid surgery can remove excess fat and lasers can firm up loose skin.
