DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is the only hospital in Michigan and one of a select few medical centers nationwide to offer blue light cystoscopy, a unique new technology used to detect and diagnose bladder cancer. Also known as Cysview®, this newly approved optical imaging procedure helps physicians pinpoint bladder tumors in patients with known or suspected bladder cancer, based on prior examination.
Cysview is a colorless contrast solution that accumulates in rapidly growing (cancerous) cells and results in fluorescence under a blue light, enabling physicians to detect lesions in the bladder.
In the images below, the tumor is undetectable in the bladder under the previously-used white light (left), but with Cysview, the tumor is visible and appears fluorescent under blue light (right).
Benefits of blue light cystoscopy include:
- Advancing care for patients in and around Detroit with the best tools available
- Better margins and better resection of tumors, resulting in decreased rates of tumor recurrence
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is currently the only medical facility in Michigan to offer the blue light cystoscopy and one of a select few nationwide.
