Holden Neurophysiology Lab

The Holden Neurophysiology Lab provides electrodiagnostic studies for neurological disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system. All studies are completed to board standards by fully trained professionals. The Holden Lab offers convenient hours and diagnostic reports are faxed or mailed to referring physicians within a day or so of study completion.

The following studies are available in the Holden Neurophysiology Lab:

(EEG) Electroencephalogram
EEG studies are performed to evaluate patients with the following conditions and/or symptoms:
  • Seizures
  • Blackouts, Syncope
  • Memory Loss
  • Recurrent or paroxysmal neurological symptoms
  • Encephalopathies
  • Confusion or alteration of consciousness

Ambulatroy EEG
If a routine EEG is not able to clinch a diagnosis or your physician wishes to clarify a diagnosis, he/she may request a longer version of EEG called Ambulatory EEG. Here the EEG is recorded up to three days, but the patient is allowed to go home and carry on daily routine. The EEG electrodes placed over the head are connected to a portable recording device that the patient can carry around attached to a belt.

Evoked Potentials (EPs)
Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP), Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP), and Upper/Lower Evoked Potentials (USEP/LSEP) are performed to evaluate patients with the following conditions and/or symptoms:

  • Multiple sclerosis and related disorders
  • Optic neuritis, vision loss
  • Tumors of the posterior fossa, such as acoustic neuroma
  • Dizziness, hearing difficulties
  • Spinal injuries
  • Myelopathy or other spinal cord dysfunction

Electromyography (EMG) with Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
EMG studies are performed to evaluate patients with the following conditions and/or symptoms:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), Repetitive Motion Disorders
  • Peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy
  • Other neuropathies or plexopathies
  • Pinched nerve or radiculopathies
  • Paresthesia
  • Sciatica
  • Myopathy
  • Neuromuscular junction disorders such as myasthenia gravis
  • Bell’s palsy
